Short Breaks - Queensland

Local is lovely: 5 short breaks to plan right now

In Articles, Short Breaks by The H4C Team

Safe with your sweetheart but hungry for a holiday? We hear you.

Pressing pause on our travel plans has not diminished our wanderlust one bit. So, we are dreaming. We are shortlisting. We are scanning the online landscape and mapping out fresh adventures. First on our list? A local favourite of course: the wonderfully restorative, totally romantic weekend away.

When it’s safe to set your GPS again, which will you choose?

Hit the beach! Discover gems up and down the East Coast

The Beach Break
That first dip in the ocean (any ocean!) or cosy stroll along the beach is going to be somewhat of a spiritual experience. So, where are you heading? Instead of flocking to the seaside superstars (with the rest of the country) we’re planning to skirt the coastline by car until the tide calls us. Then, hand over a bucket of fish & chips and hello, short break heaven!

Dream escapes: Revisiting the wild beauty of Straddie (Stradbroke Island in Moreton Bay), sinking our feet into the soft sands of Palm Cove, or bobbing around the historic ocean pools of Bronte and Clovelly. The northern NSW hamlet of Cabarita (named Australia’s Best Beach for 2020) is also calling our name.

The Gourmet Getaway
Our weekend jaunts are often enjoyed with a glass of wine in one hand and a chunk of cheese in the other. So, we’re eagerly awaiting the safe return of cellar doors and the ever-growing number of top-notch regional restaurants where stellar local produce meets culinary creativity. Cheers!

Dream escapes: Working our way around the Gourmet Traveller Wine Australia’s Best Cellar Doors list; eating Bruny Island oysters in Tasmania; or stuffing ourselves with local apple pie in Stanthorpe.

Hellllllo Sydney Harbour!

The City Sojourn
Yearning for an itinerary stuffed with gallery tours, plush urban hotels, degustation dinners, late-night cocktails, and a solid day of shopping and café-made coffee? You’re not alone! Okay, so we may have to wait a little longer for this one — but when capital city streets start to buzz again, we will be ready with bags packed.

Dream escapes: Hobart for two, with a day trip to Mona (Museum of Old and New); dinner and a show in Melbourne; or a heavenly cruise around Sydney Harbour followed by a swanky seafood lunch.

The Escape to the Country
For a dose of fresh air and good old-fashioned hospitality, it’s hard to go past a regional road trip. Throw in charming cabin accommodation and a hamper of delicious local produce and we are pigs in farm-fresh mud. Why not seek out a new mountaintop hideaway, explore your region’s beguiling rural towns, or pencil in a digital detox at a back-to-nature eco escape? Superb star-gazing awaits.

Dream escapes: Meeting the resident menagerie (hello, honeybees) on a farm stay; cosy fireside evenings in a Sunshine Coast Hinterland haven; or roaming the Blue Mountains.

Short breaks cumberland charter yachts

The Boating Breather
There’s something so delightful, so nicely nautical, so relaxing about boating with your beloved. Sail into the sunset on a bareboating (skipper yourself) adventure or pack a picnic for a leisurely putter around the waterways.

Dream escapes: Island hopping around the Whitsundays with Cumberland Charter Yachts or taking up residence on the Hawkesbury River for a lazy weekend of reading, napping and ‘Zooming’ around in a tinnie.
