Travellers visiting Thailand asked to respect national state of mourning

Holidays for Couples has a long relationship with Thailand, and many wonderful Thai friends and colleagues, and the entire team would like to convey their condolences to the people of Thailand, who are mourning the passing of their much-loved and respected King.

It is important that travellers to Thailand recognise that the Kingdom is currently in an official period of mourning following the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Travellers planning on visiting Thailand are advised to be mindful of the following:

  • Black and white clothing is a traditional sign of mourning and will be worn by much of the Thai population. Travellers are not required to do the same, but should aim to dress respectfully in public.
  • Tourist attractions will be open as usual with the exception of the following sites:
    • Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha)
    • The Grand Palace
    • Queen's Gallery
    • Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium
    • Lumpini Boxing Stadium Ramindra
    • Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum
    •  Muay Thai Live at Asiatique The Riverfront
    • The Square Buddha Amulet Market, Bangkok
  • Entertainment venues such as bars and nightclubs will be asked to consider their business operations during this period. While it will be the decision of the individual owners, this might affect travellers' plans
  • The majority of cultural and traditional events will go ahead as usual, while the celebrations may be altered for appropriateness or may be dedicated to the memory of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
  • All transport, banks, hospitals and other public services will operate as usual.
