Friday night

On your first night in town, experience the city's culinary finesse with a night out sampling fine dining. Adelaide has a great reputation for food and wine, so you will have plenty to choose from. Hotspots for restaurants include Rundle Street and Gouger Street in the central city, or the Leigh Street and Peel Street precinct. Have a great meal matched with a sumptuous selection of wine and get all settled in for your weekend. Nothing says relaxation like a romantic feast for two!

Saturday morning

Start your day off with a wander through the Adelaide Central Markets, a hub for fresh produce. There are over 80 stalls on offer, with everything from organic fruit to meat, cheese, seafood and delicious baked goods. Soak in the aromas, delight your tastebuds and stroll hand in hand gazing at the sheer variety of things to choose from.

There's always something fun and interesting going on at the markets, whether it's a cooking class, live demonstration or musical performance. You can even get a guided tour for a more in-depth experience.

Saturday afternoon

Come the afternoon, you've likely worked up a great appetite for Adelaide's fine wine. Now's the perfect time to visit the National Wine Centre of Australia, which not only delves into the history and practice of winemaking, but also offers plenty of chances for tasting! Check out the Interactive Wine Discovery Journey and Exhibition, and then hop along to the WINED Bar to try some of the city's wines for yourself. There are over 120 wines on offer, so you're spoilt for choice. Perhaps you can enjoy some tapas along with your selection – perfect for a romantic shared meal.

Saturday night

Enjoy what the gorgeous city has to offer by taking an evening stroll. There are so many parks you can enjoy as the sun sets. Perhaps take a romantic tandem cycle through the green paths of Elder Park, or soak in the romance of Rymill Park's rose gardens.

The city's Botanic Park is another favourite. As you can see, you have plenty of options! If you're feeling peckish again, you can always head to Chinatown, an area known for offering up delicious foods inspired from places across the globe.

Sunday

Today's the day to escape city life and enjoy some more of Adelaide's naturally romantic surrounds.

The romantic beachside destination of Glenelg is popular for good reason, offering up gorgeous seaside cafes, walking trails and a lovely, relaxed vibe. Better yet, it's only a short drive from central Adelaide – or you can catch a tram and be there in 25 minutes, which is an adventure of its own.

Pack a picnic and enjoy it on one of the beaches, take your shoes off and dip your toes into the sand or even take the plunge into the crystal-clear ocean waters with your sweetheart.

Here, there are even more bars, restaurants and shops for you to enjoy. You'll feel as though you've travelled to an exotic, far-flung holiday destination even though you've barely left the city!

While a weekend in Adelaide will introduce you to the city's great character and qualities, if you like what you see, taste and experience, you can always come back for more. What an idyllic – and romantic! – location for a short break!
