Must Do - Samoa

Some sites and activities fall into the do not miss for a Samoa visit. Here is a taste of what to do and see.

Visit the Robert Louis Stevenson museum

Most famous for his stories of adventure with Treasure Island, writer Robert Louis Stevenson moved to Samoa after falling ill with tuberculosis. With his family, Stevenson lived in Samoa for the five years prior to his death in which time he became close to the local Samoans who named him Tusitala, or Teller of Tales. The author’s homestead is now the home for the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. An informative forty-minute guided tour of the mansion and Tusitala’s many authentic personal belongings is highly recommended, especially of the library where he penned 14 tomes in just four years.

Stay on the Romance Coast

Affectionately named the ‘Romance Coast’, Samoa's coast is dotted with glorious beach front resorts ranging from deluxe properties offering a little (or a lot) of luxury in an intimate setting, or the traditional fale - a Samoan beach hut located steps away from the glistening waters and surf breaks of the South Pacific. It is here you can truly experience a South Pacific getaway with pristine white sandy beaches lined with coconut palms that are met by the warm water waves of the Pacific lapping the shoreline.

Dive into Tosua Ocean Trench

On Samoa’s main south coast road, you will find the iconic ToSua Ocean Trench. The giant swimming hole is a picture perfect attraction site featuring a unique land formation consisting of two giant holes joined via an ancient lava tube cave. While one of these holes, To Le Sua, is without water, the other, To Sua, has a beautiful 30m deep swimming hole with turquoise water accessed by a ladder. If the swimming hole enough isn’t spectacular, the site also offers lush gardens, day fales with cliff top views, blowholes, sea arches and rock pools to explore.
