Samoa

Visit the Robert Louis Stevenson museum

Most famous for his stories of adventure with Treasure Island, writer Robert Louis Stevenson moved to Samoa after falling ill with tuberculosis. With his family, Stevenson lived in Samoa for the five years prior to his death in which time he became close to the local Samoans who named him Tusitala, or Teller of Tales. The author’s homestead is now the home for the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. An informative forty-minute guided tour of the mansion and Tusitala’s many authentic personal belongings is highly recommended, especially of the library where he penned 14 tomes in just four years.
