Looking out from Shangri La's Boracay Resort & Spa

Deserted beaches, gin-clear waters that are teeming with sea-life, a welcoming population – the Philippines is the perfect holiday destination for any beach-loving couple.

To help you plan your ultimate Philippine island or beach holiday, we've asked Jonas Lopez, a Filipino local, to introduce you to some of his country's best island and beach destinations for a romantic getaway, holiday or honeymoon.

'Mabuhay – 'live life' – and welcome to the Philippines! The Republic of the Philippines is a Southeast Asian archipelagic nation of 7107 islands, so chances are there is a little piece of paradise just waiting to be discovered by you. Come with me as I introduce you to some of my country's most beautiful islands and beaches – some you will have heard of, others you may not be so familiar with.'

Boracay Island

No Philippine beach listing is ever complete without the big daddy of them all. Boracay Island in the central Philippine province of Aklan is popular for its straight, four-kilometre white sand beach (simply called White Beach) on the western side.

One of our favourites at H4C is the divine Shangri-La Boracay Resort & Spa. As for the best window to visit, consider between November and May for the best value, but take note: many popular summer activities in the Philippines such as rave parties and beach volleyball tournaments are held in Boracay around March and April, so book months in advance! Boracay is one of the more developed islands catering to tourists in The Philippines, which is what many international visitors love about it (in addition to the incredible beauty of the island). If you talk to people in the know, they'll reminisce about a time when everything on the island seemed so simple, and some wish to return to those times. If you are looking for a more remote island for your Philippines holiday, don't fret … we've a few of them in our top list for you!
