The famous sunset session at Potato Head Beach Club

Bali’s exclusive beach clubs range from secluded enclaves offering snorkelling, swimming, sun lounging, food and drinks, to sophisticated beachside bliss and beats that rival the Aegean party centres like Ibiza and Mykonos.

One of the original, and still the best, is Karma Beach, part of Karma Kandara in Ungasan on Bali’s prestigious Bukit Peninsula. It can only be accessed by funicular down a sheer cliff, but what you find there is paradise for couples! Cuddle up on one of the double daybeds on the stretch of clean white sand (with personalised butler service). Enjoy a massage at Karma Spa’s enchanting seaside tent. Savour the Mediterranean, Asian and Indonesian fare and well-stocked oyster bar. Or hang around for beach barbecue parties to dance barefoot beneath the stars.

Also in Ungasan is Finn’s Beach Club, part of the Semara Uluwatu. It’s a postcard-perfect setting between a rock face and the coastline. The 165-metre stretch of sand is yours for the day with swimmable waves and water sports to enjoy, from sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding to snorkelling. Lounge lizards will love the sun loungers under wide beach parasols, and the beachside kitchen cooks up Mediterranean cuisine, pasta and pizzas to accompany those cold beers and cocktails you’re sipping on.

If you’re wanting the beach club without the full day itinerary, head to the gargantuan Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak. It’s one of Bali’s coolest venues, with two restaurants, a swanky beachfront bar and an infinity pool with views of the sparkling Indian Ocean.

If you’re lucky enough to nab one of the prized lounges, you’re guaranteed a memorable end to the day and a stay well into the evening. There’s also the world famous beach club brand Nikki Beach, which has hit the white sand beachfront of Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua, offering sun beds surrounding the freeform pool with a swim-up bar. The beach club’s ‘Amazing Sunday Brunch’ is a weekend highlight!

DON'T MISS:

MOZAIC BEACH CLUB: This sister club to Ubud’s Mozaic restaurant is a secluded haven for discerning devotees, set on the shoreline of Batu Belig (next door to W Hotel).

KOMUNE BEACH CLUB: A surfers’ paradise on the East Coast, where you can party or recharge in between tackling the island’s famous world-class Keramas surf break.

COCOON, SEMINYAK: Grab one of the cabanas at this hip beach club and settle in for 2-for-1 cocktails between 4 - 7pm. By night, it’s party central!
