A rejuvenating, five star luxury experience with a strong tie to nature is how I sum up my recent stay at the Pullman Resort in Bunker Bay, Western Australia. Set on the rugged untouched WA coastline, this collection of bungalow-style villas set the scene for romance.

THE ROOMS

The 150 rooms on offer at the Pullman are fitted with a range of natural materials echoing the hues lingering just outside your window. Wooden floors, leafy green accents, streamlined furniture and a luxurious open plan bathroom (with one enormous egg-shaped bath just perfect for an hour-long soak with your special someone) make for a warm and comfortable stay. We only had one complaint – dragging ourselves out of that cloud-like bed each morning was torturous! Villas range from studio to two bedrooms and start at approximately $220 per night.

VENTURING OUT

The entire Geographe Bay region is just crying out to be explored – expanses of breathtaking scenery, a huge selection of wineries, incredible eateries and a smattering of local attractions make this a brilliant short break destination. Crowds will never be an issue and there is a local waiting around every corner with tips and advice on what you should see and do. Take
a day trip to some of Margaret River's famed winery estates, hike along the glorious coastline or visit the breathtaking Ngilgi Cave; the options are truly endless.

TASTE TEMPTATIONS

The Pullman's Other Side of the Moon restaurant, which has recently undergone a complete menu re-vamp, is the perfect spot for an intimate dinner; the stone walls and ambient feature lighting making for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed a tender eye fillet with carrot puree, delicate french onions, croquettes and a delicious beetroot reduction. The breakfast is also exceptional – the restaurants 'secret recipe' bircher muesli which came highly recommended was divine.

COUPLES WILL LOVE

One of the divine treatments at the resort's spa, located just opposite the hotel lobby. Try one of the signature massages, the 'Native Clay Hot Oil Treatment', which involves a thorough back, shoulder and neck massage with a difference – warm oil is continuously poured into a ring of clay positioned on your lower back for the first heavenly 20 minutes. Any of the spa treatments can be customised to accommodate couples, or you can create your own specialised combined couple-single packages.

GETTING THERE

Virgin Australia operates flights to Perth from a number of capital cities including Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, as well as a selection of major WA ports such as Broome, starting at $84. Once you've landed you will need to organise a transfer or car hire for the three-hour journey to Bunker Bay. I recommend hiring a vehicle; the roads are direct plus you will want to get out and explore that gorgeous WA countryside!
