Deluxe Suite at Shule Shangri-La

Myanmar is opening up and indeed, embracing tourism. At first, it may seem like an unconventional honeymoon destination. However, if you are a well travelled couple who are looking to experience somewhere tourism has not changed, and have the tolerance to enjoy a country that is still in transition, Myanmar could very well be your ideal destination. It is the perfect destination for those couples who like to discover new things together.

And the capital city, Yangon, is the main gateway to Myanmar. Shangri La Hotels & Resorts have rebranded, renovated, and upgraded what was formerly the Traders Hotel Yangon and are announcing the reopening of it as Sule Shangri-La, Yangon. In our experience, any destination that Shangri La puts its name to is one worth visiting.

Situated on the Sule Pagoda Road near the landmark namesake pagoda that is over 2,000 years old, this 484-room hotel has been a major fixture in the city's central business district since it opened in November 1996. Today, the exterior is still modern but inside the hotel's common areas mostly conjure up the atmosphere of bygone colonial days. From imposing white columns, to the grand staircase that ascends to an open balcony; and the adjacent double-height lobby lounge to the tiered crystal chandelier which illuminates a mural and panel that is inspired on one of the country's main symbols, the peacock.

A key port in the British Empire, Yangon still boasts vestiges of its colonial past after nearly a half-century of isolation. With a population of nearly 5 million people, it is Myanmar's capital city and the perfect launching point for couples to discover one of Asia's last untouched and authentic travel experiences.
