Visit one - or a few - of New Zealand's most beautiful beaches

Beach getaways are undoubtedly incredibly romantic, so why not make the experience all the more memorable by heading to a few beaches overseas?

New Zealand is close enough to be convenient to get to, but far enough away to feel like you're escaping everyday life to a whole new world.

Not only that, but New Zealand has a whole host of stunning beaches, so you've got plenty of choice when it comes to choosing where to visit.

Here are some of the best beaches that regularly top the list of the country's most beloved shores.

Whale Bay, Raglan

Just five minutes from Raglan itself, this beach is a favourite for surfers with an impressive left-hand point break. It's a great place to learn how to to surf with a local instructor, or to simply sit back and watch the pros in action.

Its surroundings are beautiful, with hills peppered with native trees and soft, white sand. The lifestyle here is laid-back and closely connected to the environment, so you can enjoy organic food shops, eco-friendly accommodation and blissful body treatments and massage.

Pack a picnic and spend a day enjoying what this stunning beach has to offer. It's a great little settlement for relaxed honeymoons, too.

New Chums Beach, Coromandel Peninsula

New Chums Beach has been untouched by development and for that reason is one of the most pristine in the whole country.

It takes a 40 minute walk through the bush, plus wading through a lagoon and crossing some rocks and another track to get there, but once you do, you'll understand why it's more than worth the journey.

The sand is bright white, and the shores are framed by stunning Pohutukawa trees in blooming red, with clear and clean water to enjoy splashing around in.

Base yourself in luxury accommodation at nearby Whangapoua Beach, where the track to access New Chums Beach can be found. Be warned, however, that you may never want to leave this little piece of paradise.

Tawharanui, Greater Auckland

This breathtaking beach is located in Tawharanui Regional Park about an hour's drive from central Auckland. Prepare for a bit of a drive down a loose gravel road to get there, after which you'll be greeted by plenty of lush green parkland and rolling hills. Make your way from the carpark to the beach, where turquoise water, golden sand and one of the most stunning vistas you'll ever see await.

Lounge on the beach, play in the clear water or explore the rocky headlands that surround the bay. As this is a Regional Park, the local wildlife is protected and pets such as dogs cannot be brought into the area.

Ohope Beach, Bay of Plenty

At Ohope, located in the beautiful Bay of Plenty region, you'll discover 11 km of white sand, inviting ocean and beautiful views. From the shore, you can see out to the active volcano White Island, not to mention Whale Island.

Relax on the beach and enjoy the landscape, or explore further with one of the many nature hikes in the area. Secure your luxury accommodation in the region and give yourself plenty of time to make the most of the stunning surroundings, not to mention to meet all the wildlife that frequents the area, such as pilot whales, dolphins, sea turtles, seals and little penguins, depending on the time of year.

Take your pick from some of New Zealand's most stunning beaches that offer unparalleled access to breathtaking scenery, wonderful wildlife, great accommodation and more. Beach honeymoons are extremely popular, so that might be something you want to consider if you're tying the knot soon, too.
