The Field of Light installation illuminates Australia's Red Centre spectacularly

Bruce Munro's monumental art phenomenon Field of Light will be created in its largest form at Ayers Rock Resort, opening on 1 April 2016 until 31 March 2017.

Bruce Munro conceived the idea of Field of Light when visiting Uluru in 1992, but it wasn't until 2004 that the exhibit came to life at London's prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum. According to Munro, it was one idea that landed in his sketchbook and kept nagging to be done.

"I saw in my mind a landscape of illuminated stems that, like the dormant seed in a dry desert, quietly wait until darkness falls, under a blazing blanket of southern stars, to bloom with gentle rhythms of light,” he said.

“Field of Light is a personal symbol for the good things in life.”

To complete the installation, more than 50,000 slender stems crowned with radiant frosted-glass spheres will be planted in the desert.
