What do you get when you combine one of Asia’s leading spa brands with one of the world’s most expensive hotels? Simply put, one of the most blissful spa experiences you’ll ever enjoy in what is certainly one of the most stunning spas in the world.

Emirates Palace was opened in 2005 and cost more than three billion dollars to build; it is said to be the world’s most expensive hotel so far. Sitting on 100 acres of park-like grounds, the ‘palace’ is a spectacular landmark on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, with views over the cobalt Arabian Gulf on one side, and the city’s CBD on the other.

Naturally, this stunning hotel did not want an average spa so this is where Anantara stepped in. With a history of awards and accolades already in place, Anantara were the perfect choice to deliver world- class treatments in a world-class spa.

Entering the stunning Moroccan-style spa is like stepping into a royal palace with its exotic mix of gold tiles, marble arches and domes throughout and, as a nod to Anantara’s Thai heritage, Thai silk materials and touches of teak furniture. Moroccan-styled mosaics made from intricate and colourful tiles are a strong feature of the spa, and I was told each one of these tiny tiles was brought direct from Morocco, ensuring absolute authenticity. There is a magnificent Moroccan hammam, steam rooms, ice showers and caves.

And the treatment? Nothing less than divine. I was ushered into a couple’s treatment room, a huge area complete with two bathtubs finished in gold tiles, two treatment tables, and private dressing areas. From the moment she started my massage, I knew my therapist’s firm yet soothing strokes came from hands that really knew what they were doing. I found out she was brought from Thailand, trained specifically by Anantara to their high and exacting standards. The spa menu is comprehensive, offering a range complete face and body treatments.
